When celebrities buy their own islands, could they set up a government and such on it and make it a country?

No, because the islands are still a part of the country that claimed them, though I can't see as how the laws would be enforced. Governments tend to play nice with the rich. When celebrities buy their own islands, could they set up a government and such on it and make it a country?
I think the late Marlon Brando did that. When celebrities buy their own islands, could they set up a government and such on it and make it a country?
well i know a princess didn't have to buy an island , her grandparents, grace kelly and prince ranier of monaco gave her the lsland as a birthday present! and she 5!
that would be awesome
Actually Johnny Depp just bought his own Island in the Bahamas!

He was on Lettermans show and mentiioned it. tonight

No. I don't believe they can make it a country in another country
No, because even though the land is their property, the territory is still part of whatever country controls the island. It's the same thing as if you buy a farm, a ranch, or any piece of land. Just because you own the land doesn't mean that the government has no business what you do on it. If you kill someone on your farm, the police will come onto your farm and arrest you. You cannot m ake your farm an independent country. It's the same with celebrities' islands: They are still controlled by the government of whatever country owns them.
