Is mineral make up really that much better?

how much better?

...does the make up you own test on animals?

eeeek poor animals..={Is mineral make up really that much better?
Honestly, not at all. It really is no better than regular noncomedogenic (non-pore clogging) makeup. I am a user of Bare Minerals (which I am starting to hate because their dark colors are orange-based and I look orange whenever I am in the sunlight. I'll go one more shade lighter and then I'm done with Bare Minerals).

Honestly, it's all just hype. Just like that HD makeup crap is all just hype and a way for you to spend more money. I'll go briefly over the supposed ';benefits'; it has:

1. ';It lasts longer than regular makeup and can withstand environmental factors.';

Ehh....wrong!!!!! The minute I stepped outside, it started to melt. I had to buy a separate oil mattifier to put under my makeup to get it not to transfer. Even then it still fades throughout the day (even with an added primer).

2. ';It does not clog pores.';

That's great! However, any DECENT makeup should not clog your pores. Before mineral makeup was made, many acne-prone girls wore makeup. But you know what they did? They made sure their makeup was noncomedogenic. Like I said, you'll find that any DECENT makeup will not clog your pores.

3. ';It looks natural. You cannot even tell it's makeup.';

Once, again great! But like above, any DECENT makeup should look natural. Once again, before mineral makeup, many people wore makeup that looked just like that skin. In fact, mineral makeup has a tendency to flake up in areas since it is powder.

4. ';It has natural ingredients so it is better for me.';

Um....wrong!!! Poison ivy is natural but I bet you would not touch it and will not consider it safer than processed cotton. Actually, the ';natural'; ingredient ';bismuth oxychloride'; has been found to break out people who are allergic to this ingredient (which there seems to be a fair amount of, including makeup guru allthatglitters21 who mentioned it broke her out in one video). I'm sure these people would definitely argue that these ';natural'; ingredients are much worse.

5. ';It does not cake up.';

It has crappy coverage. Of course it's not going to cake up. That's like a tinted moisturizer caking up. It's just not possible because of it's very sheer coverage.

But if you just like the makeup, because it fits your face then go right ahead. I do not mind Bare Minerals during the cooler months, I just hate it in the summer. Also, Bare Minerals is a good makeup, however it is nothing special and that is the point I was trying to make. Yes, it's good makeup, but do not buy it just because you believe it is better. If your foundation is working perfectly for you, then do not switch just because of the hype. However, if you are still searching for your perfect foundation (which most people, including myself are) then give mineral foundation a try because it may just be your perfect foundation.Is mineral make up really that much better?
';mineral makeup'; 鈥?products made of all natural, finely ground minerals from the earth, without any of the chemicals, dyes, and preservatives found in traditional makeup. Fast-forward some 30 years: Mineral makeup is virtually exploding the beauty market.

';This is an extremely popular style of makeup 鈥?and it's something that a lot of my patients use and love, and I use it myself. It's also the product most patients ask about,'; says Kathryn Frew, MD, a dermatologist at Juva Skin and Laser Center and MediSpa in New York City.

And while mineral makeup comes in a variety of forms 鈥?and at prices ranging from less than $10 to more than $50 per product -- undoubtedly the most popular in all price ranges are the loose powder foundations and blushes. These are light, finely ground loose minerals that are buffed into the skin using a wide, fluffy brush.

But does ';natural,'; ';mineral,'; and ';from the earth'; really equal better? WebMD discovered the answer has a lot of qualifying factors -- and some vastly differing opinions.

Mineral Makeup and Skin Health

Like most cosmetic products, mineral makeup has its fans and its critics. Those who love it rave about the light, natural, long-lasting glow that simply can't be duplicated by other types of makeup. Others, however, complain it's drying, irritating, and accentuates wrinkles and adds years to your appearance. Some say the colors have an ashy undertone that is a particular problem for ethnic skin types.

But looks aside, many consumers also say they are initially drawn to try mineral makeup because of skin health claims 鈥?more specifically, that it's pure formulations are safer and better for sensitive, even acne- or rosacea-prone skin.

But is it?

';Quite frankly, I think mineral makeup is just a genius marketing plan -- a new way of selling women the same ingredients that technically have been in makeup for years,'; says dermatologic and pharmaceutical chemist Ben Kaminsky, author of the new book Beyond Botox: 7 Secrets for Sexy, Ageless Skin.

The main ingredients (minerals such as mica, zinc oxide, and titanium dioxide), says Kaminsky, have been the basis of most makeup foundations for decades. And he says mineral makeup has no special health or beauty properties.

';Mineral makeup can cause problems the same as any other preparations can cause problems. It's not purer; there's no scientific proof of that,'; he says.

But other experts see it a bit differently. Many dermatologists report that because mineral makeup frequently eliminates classic ';irritants'; 鈥?like fragrances, binders, synthetic dyes, and preservatives -- it is considered ';purer'; and can be kinder to the skin.
Yes it is. I find since wearing mineral makeup (note - all mineral, no additives) my skin has been healing and looks more radiant. And the colours are just as beautiful as the alternative.

But, there are a lot of items out there that are advertised as ';mineral'; makeup that contain harsh additives (like bismuth oxychloride). So I would agree that in the case of many brands it is a smart marketing ploy.

If you're interested in mineral or natural makeup, read all the labels carefully.
There is no real difference.

Other than ingredients list.

Both mineral and traditional makeup can cause the same damage to the skin, or they can both have no adverse affects at all whatsoever.

So really it's personal choice, if you prefer going natural because of personal beliefs or due to super sensitive skin, which may be a good move (although mineral makeup can still cause allergic reactions on sensitive skin, take as an example Bare Escentuals, which causes a lot of allergic reactions).

I don't wear foundation. Mineral and traditional really had no difference on my skin, they both would either break me out or not.
well mineral powder is better for a softer less cakey and more natural look. its also great for sweeping over foundation for an even blended look. mineral powder is better for acne prone faces because it usually does not contain talc or mineral oil. you can get pressed mineral powders which arent loose but have the same ingredients.

hope i helped :D
it is in a way.

but sometimes it doesn't always give you that much of cover to your skin, leaving your skin tone un even and not covering all of your flaws, and making your skin powdery.

i discovered this when i bought mineral makeup for myself.

It didn't cover my face, and showed all my uneven skin tones and flaws.

so i use mousse foundation now.

i suggest mineral makeup to people who already have flawless skin. NOT for people who think it will help them cover there pimples, uneveness, pores, and flaws.
everything has to be tested because they have to make sure its safe so they test on animals b4 they test on humans. if u want to take that test animals place go rite ahead. the best foundation would be one that doesnt have any toxic chemials, meaning its safe to eat. :D
Ive read all kinds of mixed reviews on it...when i was looking for a new type of makeup i bought Dinair Airbrush Makeup and its amazing! I have been using it for 2 years now and ive never been happier with makeup...it makes my skin look flawless an it lasts all day and it even is all water based so its not bad for ur skin. If ya wanna look more into it then just google Dinair and you can look through their site..hope i helped and i hope u find the makeup thats best for u
Well, I think it may be slightly better because it lets your pours breathe so they won't get clogged up.
yes.
